Demetra Merikas received her undergraduate degree from University of Chicago and her J.D. from Loyola School of Law in Chicago. Shortly after graduating from law school, Demetra worked as a trademark and transactions attorney in Eastern and Western Europe for several years representing multinational consumer goods companies entering developing markets. Upon returning to the U.S. she continued working in private practice specializing in trademark prosecution and enforcement. In 2004, she accepted a position as in-house IP Counsel at World Kitchen, handling trademark and commercial matters for brands such as Pyrex, Corningware, and Chicago Cutlery. Demetra then became Senior Trademark Counsel at Kraft Foods, where she was responsible for domestic and international trademark matters – prosecution, enforcement and M&A – in the beverage and grocery sectors, including brands such as TANG, CRYSTAL LIGHT, MAXWELL HOUSE and JELL-O.
