Erick Baldemar Rivera
Erick joined the firm in September 2024, having received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He focuses on trademark prosecution and litigation with experience in internet takedowns and UDRP complaints.
Erick began his legal career as a copy clerk, then he moved into a role as an IP legal assistant, and eventually, he became a trademark paralegal before he attended law school. Erick then joined a small IP boutique as a law clerk before finally joining Pattishall as a Summer Associate in 2023.
Erick began law school as a part-time student while working as a trademark paralegal. He was a teaching assistant; a Notes and Comments Editor for the Chicago-Kent Law Review; and a member of the First-Generation Law Student Association. Erick also participated in INTA’s Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition and was nominated by his peers for induction to the Bar and Gavel Society as recognition for his outstanding service to the law school, community, and legal profession. Erick was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award, which is presented to the student who earns the highest grade in a class, for Business Organizations, Negotiations, International Intellectual Property, and Workplace Harassment. His paper “Mental Health, Remote Work, and Discrimination,” won the Mary Rose Strubbe Labor & Employment Writing Prize in 2024.
Erick received a Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance from Oklahoma City University’s Bass School of Music. Before law school, Erick performed in and around the Chicago area. He was an understudy for Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s six hour production “Tug of War,” and played both Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins in “Million Dollar Quartet.” In his free time, Erick records music in his home studio; composing, recording, and producing music for audio dramas and working on his own independent music projects.
